Reconstruction and refurbishment of a department at the Max Planck Campus in Martinsried

The Institutes of Biochemistry and Neurobiology are located on the campus of the Max Planck Institute in Martinsried near Munich. The buildings, most of which were erected in the 1970s as precast concrete structures with load-bearing exterior and interior columns and bracing central staircases, were successively refurbished and restructured.

In the course of the restructuring and the retirement of a director, the building section N was refurbished in terms of energy efficiency and structural fire protection. The new facade insulation was installed inside. The appearance of the building should not and could not be modified. Upon the user's request, all individual offices for team leaders, the director and secretariat were arranged around a common communication area with glass partitions. The offices were furnished exactly according to the user's demands.

For the development of a new microscope in the basement, a vibration-isolated and decoupled foundation as well as an encasement were necessary for preventing any temperature or air fluctuations.
