On the premises of the Max Planck Clinic for Psychiatry in Munich's district Schwabing, reconstruction and renovation works were carried out in connection with the appointment of new directors.

The refurbishment also involved the laboratories on the first floor. Kai Otto Architekten were responsible for the laboratory planning as well as for implementing the renovation measures. The entire laboratory furniture was removed and, upon completion of the renovation works, replaced by modern work tables meeting today's requirements. In some laboratories, safety workbenches and incubators as well as refrigerators and freezers were installed. Moreover, special measures were required concerning the furnishing of the security level 2 laboratory and the functional space, the cold stores and storage rooms for nitrogen and chemicals.

Some of the measures were carried out while the laboratories remained fully operational.
